Mindfulness and Meditation


Skills like mindfulness and meditation are practical tools kids can use to control stress and anxiety.

As an Occupational Therapist, I am able to see the many benefits that mindfulness and meditation provides kids. Teaching practical and specific skills that kids can take with them wherever they go gives children the power to control their emotional reactions to daily events. Empowering kids to empower themselves brings confidence and success.



How can mindfulness help my child?

In a society where the expectations of kids are even higher than ever and demands start earlier, anxiety has become a prevalent issue among children. Without the specific tools to control this anxiety, kids are left to figure out how to control it on their own. Stress and anxiety often lead to behavioral problems and emotional outbursts. Learning to avoid negative self-talk, control the thoughts they are having, and use physical movement, kids are able to feel more comfortable in their bodies and minds. When a person's mind and body are calm, so are their reactions to the world around them. I will help kids learn to self-soothe and teach them to successfully function in the unpredictable world around them.



How will you teach mindfulness and meditation to kids?

As a certified Kidding Around Yoga instructor, I will use yoga to show kids how to meditate and stay mindful of the moment. Some of the techniques that are used in line with this method are developing mantras, breath control, meditation, practicing emotion recognition, asanas, and so much more.
